Dermal Filler FAQS

What products are used for dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are commonly made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. The hyaluronic acid used in fillers is in a gel to create shape and volume. We use Restylane® products at Pre—they have over 20 years of research behind them, and they are predictable, natural-looking and comfortable.

How does dermal filler work?

Dermal fillers restore volume and fullness to areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging or other factors. They can also enhance facial contours and improve the appearance of wrinkles and folds. The gel is injected into targeted areas to lift, define, volumise or refine areas requiring treatment.

Can I get lip fillers at Pre-?

Yes! Although lip fillers are not featured on our menu as a singular treat, lips form a huge part of youth revival and balancing the features. During your consultation, our aesthetic practitioners will discuss your goals and journey with you and plan a fully customised treatment plan that may involve lip enhancement.

Does getting dermal filler hurt?

Most clients experience minimal discomfort during dermal filler injections. Topical numbing cream or local anaesthesia is often applied before the procedure to ensure comfort throughout the treatment—all our products also contain anaesthetic within the formulation for added comfort.

Will I look unnatural after dermal filler?

When planned and performed by our experienced aesthetics practitioners, dermal filler journeys can enhance your natural features while maintaining a natural-looking appearance. Overfilling or improper placement can lead to an unnatural look, so we never administer more than 4ml in one treatment appointment at Pre-.

How should I prepare for a dermal filler treatment?

To minimise the risk of bruising, it's recommended to avoid blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and strenuous exercise before dermal filler treatment. It's important to drink plenty of water before hand, and if you can eat fresh pineapple there's a chemical with fresh pineapple that can reduce swelling. If you are worried about bruising, we recommend taking arnica tablets prior to the appointment, this can massively reduce bruising after your treatment.

Are the results instant after dermal filler treatment?

While some immediate improvement may be visible, the full results of dermal filler treatment typically develop over the course of a few days as any swelling subsides and the filler settles into place.

How do I know what type of dermal fillers I need?

During your consultation, your practitioner will assess your facial anatomy and concerns, discuss your goals, and recommend the most appropriate dermal filler products and treatment plans tailored to your needs. We may also stagger appointments over time to ensure full, natural results using a reduced amount of product in each appointment.

Will I bruise and swell after dermal filler treatment?

Bruising and swelling are common side effects of dermal filler injections, but they are usually mild and temporary. Applying cooling ice packs and avoiding blood-thinning medications can help minimise these side effects.

Can I take a flight after dermal filler treatment?

It's generally safe to fly after dermal filler treatment. Your provider will provide post-treatment instructions, including avoiding excessive pressure on the treated area. We always have an aesthetic practitioner who can give you specific advise should you be concerned.

How much dermal filler will I need?

The amount of dermal filler needed depends on various factors, including the treatment area, severity of volume loss, and desired outcome. Your practitioner will recommend the appropriate amount during your consultation that is specific to you.

How often do I need to top up my dermal fillers?

The longevity of results varies depending on the type of filler used, the treated area, and individual metabolism. Typically, dermal filler results last 6-18 months before maintenance treatments are needed.

What happens if something goes wrong?

If you experience any concerning symptoms, contact your provider immediately. In the event of any complication, we have a team that will be able to advise and assist.

Will it be obvious that I've had dermal fillers?

When administered at Pre-, dermal fillers will enhance your appearance subtly without looking obvious. Most people will not be able to tell that you've had filler treatments. You'll look great, but people won't be able to put their finger on why!
